This weekend we had a bit of a break from farm chores and took a mini-vacation to the Windy City. We were able to visit three of my lovely sisters-in-law, and had a wonderful day at a the Blackhawks hockey game.
I am from Northern Michigan and grew up about an hour from Lake Superior State University. I was able to go to a few college hockey games when I was in high school, and I loved it. My husband and I attended Northern Michigan University, where hockey and cross-country skiing were the only division one sports. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a hockey game, but it felt like going back to my roots.
We were fortunate enough to be the guests of the man who sings the national anthem at all of the home games, Jim Cornelison. We had great seats only a few rows up from one of the goals.
We enjoyed a fantastic game which the Blackhawks won 3 to 1, scoring two of their goals in a nail-biting third period, and which, naturally, ended with a fight.
We were even given an official game puck, still ice-cold!
After the game we ate at an amazing Greek restaurant called Santorini’s where we had some of the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life.
The city is amazing, it seems as if everything a person could ever want to do or see or buy is only a few minutes away. It’s fun to visit, it’s great to experience something so different from our daily lives, and the skyline at dusk was a marvel. Ultimately though, it makes me happy to return home, to our peaceful hideaway, our quiet slice of heaven.
What did you do on this long weekend?
